Pickup Winding Class
I teach a pickup winding class with the Roberto Venn School of Luthiery every 6 months. The class is at the School in Phoenix Arizona. Classes are the second week of March and the first week of November.
This is a specialty weekend 2 day class on Saturday and Sunday, and it is a hands on class where we cover pickup building from start to finish. Students can pick what every type and output pickup they are interested in and we will map out the specs and the building process. You are guaranteed to finish 2 pickups in the class, but some students finish more and build as many as 3-7 pickups (there is a parts charge for additional pickups beyond 2).
The basic class includes the instruction and 2 pickup builds of your choice, the premium class includes a pickup winder, the instruction and 2 pickup builds of your choice.
We cover pickup theory, demonstrations of winding, pickup construction of the 2 major types Fender and Gibson. Questions and ideas are welcome during the class and everyone is welcome to attend.
You will also receive a detailed instruction manual with every step of the build process detailed, Parts list for every pickup, Parts Suppliers list and illustrations. On completion of the class you will be capable of building pickups or repairing them.
We have had students come from every part of the country, driving in or flying in. I fly in from Los Angeles and stay at a hotel near the school, there are hotels within walking distance to the school.
For those coming from out of state: You can drive in or fly in and stay at hotels within walking distance to the school. Fly in on a Friday night and stay at a hotel, then fly out Sunday night after the class finishes at 5:00 pm. I suggest Ubering to and from the airport and Staying at one of these hotels:
